The beginning

Greetings,
This is the first post about my life as a cyclist. I am sure some individuals will conceptualize cyclist as a person who is more experienced than I am, but I considered myself one. I began to road bike this summer and I feel instantly in love with the experience and culture that surrounds cycling; including road, cross, mountain, and tri events. It has been awhile since I have been able to compete in a sport and I sure did miss the adrenaline rush of competition. I ran track and played football for six years at a boarding military school (Fork Union Military Academy) so I was really active as a child. As an undergraduate I did some power lifting and did quite well, however, it was really rough on my body. After I completed my master’s degree, my wife suggested that we get into road cycling. She is an avid tri-athlete and was looking to get a decent bike, so we decided to look into road bikes. I was driving though Indiana, Pa on my way to work and I got stuck in traffic, so I took a side street to bypass the delay. Well I ended up passing a shop that had an assortment of bikes outside and decided that I would take my wife there to look at the selection. My wife and I talked to the owner Rich Seevers about our goals and discussed the various things dealing with the purchase of our first road bike. Rich was kind enough to spend a great deal of time fitting us to our bikes and then suggesting the necessary accessories that every cyclist should have when riding. He is a humble guy who isn’t the run of the mill salesmen that is only concerned about how much money he can make off you. In the end, my wife ended up riding out with a Giant OCR 2 and I picked a Schwinn Fastback.
